writing with emphasis on organization, supporting details,
style, vocabulary and library research skills. Offered first

ENG-106 Composition II  3 cr:  Teaches precise and
responsible use of research tools. Requires critical analysis
of reading materials, audience and self when communicating
content material. Develops students' ability to use effective

MAT-107 Survey of Mathematics  3 cr: Provides an
overview of topics that include: sets, real number systems,
ratios, proportions, percentages, geometry, algebra and
functions. The course is for students with a minimum of one
year of high school algebra and who intend to take
MAT-115 Mathematics and Society. Offered second
semester. Prerequisite: One year of highschool algebra
or placement test.

MAT-115 Mathematics and Society  3 cr:  Introduces
selected areas of mathematics in familiar settings and
develops students' conceptual and problem-solving skills.
The course includes a study of mathematical concepts
selected from statistics, probablility, game theory, growth
patterns and coding information. Other topics may be included.
Offered first semeter.Prerequisitie: MAT-102 Intermediate
Algebra or MAT-107 Survey of Mathematics or placement test.

EDU-110 Exploring Teaching  3 cr:  Introduces the
concerns and activities of beginning teachers. The focus is
on developing generic teaching skills applicable from
preschool through high school. Microteaching is used to
stimulate actual teaching situations. Case studies are used
to discuss common teaching problems. This class is a
Williamsburg High School class and is shared onsite with
the English Valleys and Iowa Valley High Schools.

Software Specialist Academy
College credit classes offered in this academy are offered
second semester in the Williamsburg High School.

         ADM-142  Desktop Publishing  3 cr: Students learn
         to create professional quality documents, such as one-
         page bulletins or short newsletters, using desktop publishing
         software, Adobe in Design and Photoshop. Students will
         learn to integrate text, graphic and image file previously
         created in other software applications.
         Williamsburg High School Instructor:  Chris Koehn
         BCA-179 Powerpoint Multimedia  3 cr:  Develops
         knowledge of multimedia concepts by studying multimedia
         software and the hardware components needed to develop
         and view multimedia productions. Assessment projects are
         used by students fordemonstration of knowledge of multimedia
         elements (copyright,video, graphics, sound, animation)
         knowledge  of tools (digital camera, video camera, scanner,
         cams), and knowldge of editing software (sound editing, video
         editing, graphics editing).

         BCA-290  Web Design Principles  3 cr:  Focuses on the
         concepts of the overall production process surrounding Web
         site design with particular emphasis on layout, navigaton and
         maintenance of Web sties.Students are exposed to a Web
         authoring software to design and create a Web site.

Health Patient Care Academy

Center in Williamsburg.

         HSC-107  Professionals in Health 2 cr:  Presents skills
         and characteristics expected for professional preparation
         and employability. Provides an overview of the health
         industry as it relates to health and safety regulations.
         Kirkwood Community College Instructor: Lee Daniels
         HSC-117 Basic Medical Terminology 2.5 cr: Introduces
         basic word structure and terminology pertaining to body
         systems. Includes spelling, pronounciation and word usage.
         Provides a basic overviw of disease process, symptoms,
         anatomy, special procedures, pharmacology and abbreviations.
         Kirkwood Community College Instructor: Mary Husband
         HSC-172 Nurse Aid  3cr:  This 75-hour nurse aid course
         meets the training requirements of the Omnibus Budget
         Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA) for aides working in
         nursing facilites (NF) and skilled nursing facilities (SNF)
         Students learn basic care giving skills and concepts to
         provide safe, effective resident care.
         Kirkwood Community College Instructor: Lee Daniels
         (This academy is under revision for Fall 2011 due to
              curriculum changes in the nursing department at Kirkwood.

        EGT-400 Introduction to Engineering Design 3 cr:
       Uses a design development process while enriching 
       problem-solving skills; students create and analyze models
       using specialized computer software. Corequisite:
       Algebra I.

        EGT-410 Principles of Engineering  3 cr:  Explores
       technology systems and manufacturing processes;
       addresses the social and political consequences of
       technological change. Prerequisite:  Introduction to
       Engineering Design, Algebra I; Corequisite: Approved
       college-prep math course.
       Williamsburg High School Instructor: Kevin Wilkinson
         EGT-420 Digital Electronics 3 cr: Teaches applied
       logic through work with electronic circuitry, which students
       also construct and test for functionality. Prerequisite: 
       Principles of  Engineering; Corequisite: Approved college-
       prep math course. A shared academy at the CCA High
       School in Tiffin.
       Clear Creek Amana Instructor:  Tim Benson
        EGT-440 Biotechnical Engineering 3 cr: Hones more
        advanced skills in biology, physics, technology, and
       mathematics and applies them to real-world biotech fields.
       Prerequisite: Biology;  Corequisite: Approved college-prep
       math course.

        WEL-331 - Welding Fundamentals 2 cr:  Covers basic
       welding techniques iwth oxyacetylene and electric welders.
       Designed for the general tradesperson working in the areas
       of mechanics and automotive technology.  Students are
       introduced to a variety of welding situations including cutting,
       brazing and various welding positions on lighter guages of
       metal and basic fabrication.  Offered first semester.
       Williamsburg High School Instructor: Larry Baethke 
       WEL-156 Welding Skills I 4 cr: Includes introductory
        concepts and theories in shielded metal arc welding.
        Students learn welding techniques for weaving and flat
        position fillet welds. Osyacetylene torch and plasma cutter
        operation are also convered. Offered second semester.
